Meet Kelly Smith
Registered Dental Hygienist

Hi, I am Kelly, the owner of Kurly's Pearlies. I have been a licensed dental hygienist for more than six years and in 2024 I took the leap to become fully independent and start up a dental hygiene clinic with a difference!
Since launching Kurly's Pearlies, this journey has become one of the most rewarding parts of my life. What I love most is watching my patients light up with confidence as they take back control of their oral health.
Helping people feel good and creating a space where they can actually enjoy the experience is what drives everything I do.
After all, your smile deserves to be pampered!

FAQ'S
About ZOOM Whitening
What is ZOOM teeth whitening? ZOOM is a professional in-office whitening treatment designed to give you a noticeably brighter smile in just 1 visit. Your lips and gums are carefully isolated to protect them, and a hydrogen peroxide whitening gel is applied to your teeth. A specialized blue LED light activates the gel, helping it break down stains and discoloration quickly and effectively.
How long is the ZOOM whitening treatment? The whitening treatment itself is 1 hour. This does not include prep time, before/after pictures and discussion during the appointment. Total appointment time is roughly 1.5 hours.
Is ZOOM teeth whitening safe? Yes! ZOOM is FDA-approved, proven safe in clinical studies, and even helps strengthen enamel.
How long do results last? Results can last up to 1 year depending on habits like smoking or drinking coffee, tea, or wine. For longer-lasting brightness, some clients come in twice a year or use their custom whitening trays for touch ups at home.
How many sessions do I need? Only one session is needed for a noticeably whiter smile! The treatment is 60 minutes long however some people only require 45 minutes to achieve the results they are looking for.
Does ZOOM whitening cause pain or sensitivity? It is not a painful procedure; however, some people experience temporary minor discomfort due to tooth sensitivity. The sensitivities are typically gone within a day and do not cause any damage to the teeth
What should I do if I’m worried about sensitivity? Custom whitening trays may be a better option if you have sensitive teeth. While ZOOM offers quick results, the accelerated process can cause temporary sensi
Should I get my teeth cleaned before whitening? Absolutely! Clean teeth = better results. Think of it like waxing a car—you wouldn’t do it while it’s dirty. For best results, book a dental cleaning within 3 months before your ZOOM treatment, or book both in the same visit if you’re up for a longer appointment.
How often can I get my teeth whitened? It all depends on your whitening goals. Most people are happy with professional whitening visits once a year, while others like the routine maintenance of 2-4 times a year.
Will ZOOM whitening work if I have gum recession? Yes. ZOOM is a customizable whitening treatment, meaning any areas that are not meant to be whitened (ie; gums, receding gums) are sealed off with a barrier material that prevents the whitening gel from contacting those areas.
How much control do you have with the shading if I don’t want my teeth to go too white? If you are looking for only a slight change in shade, we can discuss options for fewer sessions during the treatment.
Does whitening work on dental restorations such as fillings, crowns and veneers? Permanent restorations are made out of ceramic, porcelain or resin which cannot whiten like tooth structure does. However, the stains that develop in between teeth or around the margins of these restorations will whiten, making them appear whiter than they are.
What is the difference between ZOOM teeth whitening vs other brands? ZOOM is the best it gets for professional teeth whitening. It is widely recognized technology and is the #1 patient-requested professional whitening brand in Canada and the US. The results are clinically validated and the technology is safe and reliable. ZOOM can only be provided by a dental professional which provides assurance that it is safe and appropriate for specific oral needs. Non-dental professionals such as aestheticians that offer teeth whitening use products that are not medical grade and lower quality so they are not as effective.
I have white marks on my teeth. Will the ZOOM whitening treatment help blend them in? Fluorosis which appears as white marks on the teeth is common, and when whitened, they initially become brighter. After 48 hours, you will notice the marks start to tone down and blend in with the rest of the whitened tooth structure and most times they are less noticeable.
What is the aftercare protocol for ZOOM whitening? 48 hours post treatment, avoid any stain-causing foods and drinks such as coffee, wine, tea, Kombucha, Gatorade, ketchup/tomato, soya sauces, balsamic vinegar, etc.
What are whitening trays and how do I use them? Whitening trays are clear, flexible trays custom-made to fit your teeth perfectly for whitening at home. A small amount of peroxide gel is applied to the front inside surfaces of each tray then they are placed over your teeth and worn daily for 1–2 weeks.
Do I whiten my teeth with the custom trays during the day or at night? If you are using the nighttime gel (NiteWhite), this gel is to be worn in the trays overnight for 1-2 weeks. If you are using the day time gel (DayWhite), this gel is to be worn in the trays for 30-60 minutes daily for 1-2 weeks.
How are custom whitening trays made? First you’ll come in to have dental impressions taken of your upper and lower teeth. Your whitening goals will be discussed as well to determine which peroxide gel best suits your needs. This appointment is generally 20-30 minutes. The custom trays are made from these impressions and you’ll be notified once they are ready for pick up.
Do you offer mobile teeth whitening services in the GTA? Yes - if you would like to inquire about an event please email kpearlies@gmail.com
About Dental Cleanings
How often should I get a dental cleaning? Every 6 months is standard, but some people may benefit from cleanings every 3–4 months depending on their oral health.
Why choose an Independent Hygienist like Kurly’s Pearlies? Unlike traditional dental offices, Kurly’s Pearlie’s offers a relaxed, client-focused dental hygiene experience where your comfort and education come first. No rushed appointments, no harsh judgment—just personalized care in a calming environment. Here, you’ll get: • Extra time to discuss your oral health • Before-and-after photos to better understand your needs • A massage chair, comfort pillows, a weighted blanket, and music of your choice • A space that smells like fresh lavender—not chemicals • A truly judgment-free zone where you’re empowered to improve your oral care at home You’ll leave feeling relaxed, informed, and cared for—no more “stabby” cleanings or being rushed out the door.
How much will a dental cleaning cost? The cost of a dental cleaning is determined by how long it takes. Someone who had a dental cleaning 2 years ago will require more time and work compared to someone who gets cleanings every 4 months. If you don’t have benefits or would like an estimated cost please contact me directly.
Do you offer ultrasonic scaling? Yes, this is used in conjunction with hand scaling and polishing to remove stains and deposit build up.
Do I still need to see my regular dentist? I recommend booking an exam with your dentist once a year. X-rays are also crucial to detect hidden problems like cavities between teeth or bone loss.
Why do I need a cleaning if I brush and floss every day? Cleanings remove tartar and plaque build-up that brushing alone can’t reach - especially below the gumline.
Can I get a cleaning while pregnant? Yes! Dental cleanings are safe and recommended during pregnancy to maintain gum health. Experts suggest the second trimester is the best time to get dental work.
Do you accept dental benefits? Yes - I will bill directly to your insurance company for you. Unfortunately this excludes teeth whitening - this is deemed cosmetic so insurance companies will not cover this.
How do you accept payment? E-transfer or cash at your appointment.
What happens if I need to reschedule within 24 hours? I totally understand that life happens, and the first short-notice cancellation will always be excused. That said, when appointments are cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice, it leaves a gap in my schedule that could have been offered to another patient. To be fair to all patients and respect everyone’s time, a $50 fee will be charged to your credit card for late cancellations or no-shows after the first instance. If this becomes a recurring pattern, the fee will be enforced more consistently. Thanks for your understanding and respect for my time and other patients!
